Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the process of birth and death is a purely physical and natural phenomenon, occurring within the realm of nature. He notes that the objects undergoing these changes, such as stones or atoms, never ask why these events occur because they lack consciousness. The question of why is a product of consciousness itself. Just as atoms are constantly formed and destroyed throughout the universe, bodies are born and perish as part of a material event, no different from any other physical reaction in the universe. The speaker highlights that the perception of birth and death as significant or mysterious events arises because the ego identifies with the body. If the ego were identified with a cloud, it would perceive the cloud's rain as a tragic death. However, because we view clouds as mere objects, we see their formation and dispersal as simple physical phenomena. Similarly, the body is a product of biological and chemical processes, fundamentally no different from the formation of a cloud or any other material structure. Acharya Prashant asserts that the ego seeks immortality because it is a shadow of the soul, whose nature is eternal. However, the ego mistakenly searches for this immortality within nature, where everything is subject to time and decay. This search manifests as a desire for long-lasting relationships or permanent structures. Because everything in nature is transient and bound by time, the ego's expectations of permanence are never met in the material world. Ultimately, birth and death become serious concerns only due to attachment and identification. Without this attachment, one would see that nothing is truly born and nothing truly dies; matter simply changes form. The body returns to the earth just as a cloud returns to water. The speaker concludes that the real issue is that our true essence is immortal, yet we continue to seek stability and a permanent home in the changing world of matter.
