Description

Acharya Prashant explains a couplet by Kabir Saheb, emphasizing that the words and symbols used by the saint must be understood at the level of the saint's consciousness rather than through our mundane definitions. He clarifies that when Kabir Saheb speaks of 'cutting the throat' of another, it is not a literal warning about physical revenge or a simple calculation of profit and loss. Instead, it refers to the inherent violence of duality. The moment one creates the 'other' and draws a boundary between oneself and the world, violence has already begun. This boundary, or ego, is the source of all suffering, regardless of whether it expands through success or shrinks through failure. As long as a boundary exists, conflict and pain are inevitable. He further elaborates that the ego cannot exist without the 'other'; it is always relative and defined by opposition. This constant friction is what Kabir Saheb describes as 'cutting the throat.' Acharya Prashant points out that our very existence as separate individuals is a form of violence because it requires us to stand in opposition to the flow of life. He suggests that true peace is not found in improving relationships between two separate entities, but in the dissolution of the 'other' and the 'self.' The tragedy of human life is our attachment to the 'ego,' which is essentially a false and non-existent construct. Only by recognizing the fundamental error of this separation can one find liberation from the cycle of conflict and suffering.
