Description

Acharya Prashant explains that it is not the action that matters, but the point of origin of the action. He states that action will always be dictated by situations, but one's center cannot be. Therefore, one cannot be particular about action. If one has real eyes, they will not want to look at an action and judge the actor based on it, which is a common practice. Deeds can vary; what is right in one situation may not be right in another. However, one can remain thoroughly and consistently compassionate in different situations. The action in one situation, coming out of compassion, can be diametrically opposite to the action in another situation, which also comes out of compassion. In both cases, the person is the same compassionate one, yet the actions are seemingly opposite. If one is judged only on their action, the judgment would go haywire. Living totally, the speaker clarifies, does not mean having a flamboyant, lavishly spending, or consuming lifestyle. Instead, living totally means operating from a point within that is not hungry or thirsty, a point that abides in its own internal satisfaction. This means that even while the body is being given food, there is a point within that does not need any food. To be more exact, there exists a point that neither needs food nor is in denial of it; it is beyond hunger and satisfaction. It is dimensionally different from all material things, all food, all desire, and all fulfillment of desire. The common interpretation of 'living totally' as needing a 'king-size life' with parties and pleasures is a puerile definition suitable for adolescents. Living totally is something entirely different. It means that whether you eat in a restaurant or a humble kitchen, or whether you are talking to an old man or holding an infant, there is something within you that does not change, even as your behavior towards these entities must be different. While everything external keeps changing according to situations, something within remains still. Living totally means you remain the same in the moment of your deepest fulfillment and in the moment of your deepest frustration. Even when the mind and body are feeling fulfilled, excited, or in ecstasy, there is something within that feels no excitement. Conversely, when the mind and body are depressed, irritated, or in pain, there is something within that is not at all frustrated or feeling low. This inner point is neither high nor low; it is simply untouched. That is the point of totality.
