Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the common dilemma of whether the universe is predestined by God or governed by physical forces and free will. He points out that both views rely on the assumption that time, space, and events are fundamentally real. He suggests that instead of asking about a creator, one should first investigate if the stream of time and the world are actual realities or merely mental constructs. Since the world is verified only through the senses, and the senses themselves are part of the world, this verification is cyclical and unreliable. He explains that time only exists in sensory perception and the mind, not in deep sleep or at the ultimate source. He describes God not as a creator acting in the past, but as the timeless source or fountainhead from which all creation and imagination emerge. He asserts that the universe is an imagination of the individual mind, and its quality depends on the mind's configuration. While the power to imagine comes from the source, the specific creation is the work of the mind. God has no personal agenda or physical form and does not intervene in the world. Therefore, the universe is a network of cause and effect where everything is mechanical and predestined. Acharya Prashant concludes that a person is a slave to destiny only to the extent that they identify with the material body and the world. Since the body is part of the physical universe, it is governed by the laws of cause and effect, leading inevitably to death. However, if an individual aligns themselves with their true center or the source, they transcend the reach of destiny, time, and death. By surrendering to this independent agency that lies outside the causal network, one remains untouched by worldly events and finds ultimate contentment.
