Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the persistence of past problems, such as suppressed desires or depression, is not merely about the specific issue but about the mind's tendency to accumulate and hold onto the past. He compares the mind to a cart that continuously collects garbage; the more we move forward while holding onto the past, the heavier and more burdensome it becomes. We often keep our problems alive because they provide a false sense of continuity and permanence. While saints teach that everything in the world is transient, the ego tries to prove them wrong by making its suffering eternal. It is easier for the ego to maintain a continuity of weakness or foolishness than a continuity of strength, as weakness is rarely challenged by others. He further clarifies that we choose to hold onto problems as a substitute for the Truth. When we do not have the eternal Truth (Satya) in our lives, we fill that void with the permanence of our miseries. To be free, one must realize that remembering past trauma serves a selfish interest of the ego, acting as a rival to the Divine. Instead of constantly remembering the problem, one should focus on the eternal. Acharya Prashant advises breaking away from the pre-defined formats and patterns of life that cause boredom and frustration. He encourages taking the risk to shatter these structures, suggesting that the possibility of finding joy far outweighs the current state of suffering.
