Description

Acharya Prashant explains that human actions are typically driven by a purpose or motive, which is often rooted in the ego's desire for self-preservation and validation. He distinguishes between two types of actions: 'Swarth' (selfishness) and 'Parmarth' (selfless service). Selfishness arises from a sense of limitation, fear, and the need to maintain one's identity in a hostile world. In contrast, selfless service, or 'Seva', occurs when one is free from the anxiety of self-interest and acts for the whole. He emphasizes that if service is performed with a desire for praise or recognition, it ceases to be service and turns back into selfishness. True service requires a mind that does not seek personal gain or 'Gungaan' (praise). Acharya Prashant further clarifies the concept of being a 'Sevak' or 'Das' (servant), as used by saints like Kabir Saheb. He explains that being a servant of the Divine does not mean being a slave to a person or an idea, but rather being free from the slavery of the world. Most people are unconscious slaves to social norms, prestige, and money, yet they refuse to call themselves servants. A true saint like Kabir Saheb is a warrior who refuses to bow down to worldly pressures. This state of surrender is not about bowing to a known entity, but about refusing to bow to the thousands of worldly influences. True devotion is subtle and wordless; it is a state where the distinction between the devotee and the Divine disappears, making formal praise or rituals unnecessary.
