Description

Acharya Prashant explains that certain aspects of the relationship between a Guru and a disciple should remain beyond explanation and analysis. He suggests that if everything is known and predictable, it falls into a linear pattern of the mind, which limits the possibility of truth. Linearity is merely the mind's assurance that things will continue according to its own projections. He emphasizes that the interaction between a Guru and a disciple is like the relationship between the soul and the mind, and attempting to analyze it is a claim of knowing the unknowable truth. He advises that it is better for a third party, and sometimes even the disciple, not to fully grasp what has transpired, as the Guru represents an 'impossibility' that exists outside the standard laws of cause and effect. Addressing the concept of choice, Acharya Prashant notes that from a human perspective, choice seems to exist, but from the perspective of the Guru or the Truth, it does not. He uses the analogy of bodily functions and hunger to show how actions are often driven by prior causes, leaving little room for true choice. He explains that Indian philosophy revolves around the law of Karma (cause and effect) and Grace. While the world operates on cause and effect, the Guru is an intervention of Grace that breaks this cycle. He encourages the listener to use their intellect as much as possible but to recognize a point where the intellect must stop and admit its limitations. Surrender, he explains, is not an active deed but a state similar to deep sleep where one becomes effortless and still, transcending the need for logical conclusions.
