Description

Acharya Prashant clarifies that witnessing or being a watcher is not an active mental process or a separate action. He explains that true witnessing occurs when one allows themselves to fully immerse in an experience without resistance or fear. Fear arises from expectations and the anticipation of negative outcomes. When a person enters an experience completely, they often find that the anticipated fears and negative sensations do not manifest. This absence of expected suffering while being fully present in the experience is what constitutes witnessing. He emphasizes that one cannot 'see' the witness, as the witness is that which sees everything but remains unseen. To be in a state of witnessing means to be in the experience but not be tainted or soiled by it. Acharya Prashant further explains that understanding often comes through instantaneous, meditative insight rather than continuous, repetitive thinking. He advises against over-analyzing such insights, as logic can sometimes distort direct understanding. Addressing the issue of fear in specific situations, such as teaching a class, he asserts that life must be viewed in its totality. Problems like fear or conflict are not localized to specific events but are symptoms of one's overall state of being and self-image. He suggests that the root cause of all suffering is the 'ego-image' or the concepts one holds about themselves. To find true freedom, one must examine their daily activities and identify what constantly occupies their mind, as these attachments are the 'Maya' or illusions that bind them. By addressing the core self-image, one can achieve a state of health and clarity that persists across all life situations.
