Description

Acharya Prashant explains that freedom is not merely a necessity but is the very nature of a human being. He notes that while needs can be compromised, one's inherent nature cannot be changed, which is why no one truly desires slavery and why imprisonment is seen as a severe punishment. He emphasizes that freedom is always present within, whereas bondage is something external that individuals actively earn and impose upon themselves. He clarifies that the feeling of being trapped in a network of relationships often stems from a misunderstanding of responsibility. Acharya Prashant redefines responsibility by breaking it down into the ability to respond. He distinguishes this from duty, which he describes as a burden or a social imposition that weighs down the mind. True responsibility is the capacity to understand a situation and act appropriately based on that understanding, which actually lightens the mind and represents true freedom. He further differentiates between reaction and response, noting that a reaction is mechanical and lacks awareness, much like a chemical reaction. A response, however, is born out of clarity and a deep understanding of the situation. He concludes that being responsible means having the intelligence to provide a proper reply to life's circumstances rather than being driven by unconscious reactions.
