Acharya Prashant explains that joy is not an independent entity but a relative term that gains meaning only in the context of suffering. While pleasure is a reaction to pain, joy arises when one seeks liberation from both pleasure and pain. He clarifies that joy has no opposite, unlike pleasure and pain which constantly alternate. Because joy does not come and go, it is considered the truth, whereas pleasure and pain are not. He further elaborates that joy is not actually a state of being because there is no individual left to experience it. While there is an 'ego' or 'doer' to experience pleasure and pain, joy signifies the absence of that experiencer. When the one who suffers and enjoys disappears, what remains is referred to as joy. Therefore, joy is a timeless state that is not triggered or destroyed by any event in time.
