Description

Acharya Prashant explains the futility of trying to "leave" illusion (Maya) by using an analogy. He states that talking about leaving Maya is like the night saying it wants to abandon its darkness. The thought of leaving without first attaining the Truth is akin to the night wishing for its darkness to be cleansed without the sun's arrival, viewing the sun as an enemy. The speaker clarifies that night is nothing but the absence of the sun, and darkness is merely the absence of light. Therefore, one cannot "leave" darkness because it has no independent existence. This concept is further applied to the ego. The speaker calls the idea of "dropping the ego" the most foolish notion because the ego itself is an illusion. He questions how one can drop something that does not truly exist. People often contradict themselves by calling the ego an illusion and then talking about dropping it. If something doesn't exist, the question of leaving it does not arise. The focus should not be on leaving but on attaining. One must attain that which is real, that which is one's true nature. When the real is attained, the need to leave anything else ceases to exist. The speaker emphasizes that the power and even the intention to leave the unreal come from the real itself. One cannot reach the real through their own efforts alone; one must ask for the strength from the real to move towards it. It is not that by removing the unreal, the real remains; rather, the real is the very foundation. Similarly, jealousy is removed by love, and fear is removed by faith. One cannot hope to remove jealousy while keeping the ego intact, as love shatters the ego. The solution is not to fight the various shadows and illusions of the mind but to bring in the light of the sun (Truth), which will cause all falsehoods to disappear on their own. Whatever is dispelled by the arrival of Truth was always false, and one should not be attached to it.
