Description

Acharya Prashant explains that a Guru is essentially a messenger. As long as the Guru delivers the message without any distortion, manipulation, or mixture, their words are worth listening to. However, the moment a Guru begins to adulterate the message, they should be abandoned immediately. He quotes that if a Guru cannot dispel one's confusion or illusions, one should not delay in leaving them. The ultimate goal is truth and freedom, not the worship of a person. Since every individual is made of flesh and bone, there is no point in worshipping the physical form of a Guru; if one were to worship flesh, one might as well worship oneself. One should only value the truth that manifests through that person. Acharya Prashant warns that while a Guru can be the highest means of liberation, they can also become a cage and a form of slavery. Often, in the name of a Guru, people's ability to think and understand is suppressed, leading them to become superstitious. He advises constant vigilance and evaluation based on whether one is gaining freedom, cutting bonds, and dispelling darkness. The true measure of a Guru is whether they assist in one's well-being and understanding, rather than being an object of personal worship or foot-touching rituals.
