Description

Acharya Prashant emphasizes that the Bhagavad Gita is a philosophical document of the highest order rather than a mere story. He critiques modern spiritual notions that claim good and bad are just perceptions or illusions, arguing that such ideas lead to suffering and confusion. For an ordinary person, good and bad are actual realities that require clear discrimination. He asserts that all suffering in the world stems from a lack of right judgment, where one fails to distinguish between what is advisable and what is avoidable. While non-dualistic sages like Ashtavakra or Dattatreya could claim that virtues and vices do not exist, an average person cannot adopt this stance without facing practical and spiritual consequences. He highlights the faculty of discrimination, or viveka, as the most important human faculty. One must be judgmental and know exactly what to refuse and what to accept. Acharya Prashant warns against using neutrality or moderation as a convenient excuse to avoid the truth. He illustrates this by explaining that one cannot take a middle ground between the teachings of Shri Krishna and worldly influences. True spiritual progress requires taking an extreme position in favor of the truth, giving a hundred percent to Shri Krishna and nothing to worldly distractions. He concludes by warning that suspicion and doubt are tools used by the ego and Prakriti to keep an individual away from the truth, and one must overcome these to move forward.
