Acharya Prashant asserts that it is impossible to be spiritual while consuming animals because spirituality is rooted in complete awareness and non-fragmentation. A spiritual person understands the source of their food and cannot remain blind to the violence on their plate. He suggests that if one were to look into the eyes of an animal during slaughter, they would see their own deep innocence reflected back, making the act impossible. He explains that the animal outside is a mirror of the animal within us—our primitive, unconditioned nature. Violence toward animals is, therefore, violence toward oneself and the greenery within.
