Description

Acharya Prashant explains that realization of the truth is not a matter of passive grace or external rituals, but requires single-minded devotion. He clarifies that single-minded devotion means having a practical commitment to the truth and an indifference toward falseness in one's daily life. Even if one does not know the ultimate truth, one can begin by rejecting what is clearly false. He emphasizes that spiritual practices like chanting mantras, performing sacrifices, or reading scriptures are peripheral and secondary. If the center of one's life is not right, these external activities will only lead to further delusion and a lack of inner strength. He points out that many people use religious practices as a defense mechanism to preserve their 'rotten core' while maintaining a spiritual image. Shri Krishna warns that the Vedas, austerities, and gifts cannot reveal the truth if they are used to avoid reality. Acharya Prashant uses the analogy of a sick person reading a medical book to avoid the doctor; similarly, people often cling to scriptures to avoid the direct, sometimes ferocious, presence of a living teacher. He notes that while the essence of wisdom is timeless, its form must be fresh and customized to the individual and the current moment. Therefore, a living source is necessary to provide a teaching that is relatable and applicable to the present context.
