Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the common guilt people feel when they prioritize their immediate family over the rest of the world. He explains that this perceived conflict between personal duty and universal love is a misunderstanding. Every question contains an internal contradiction based on incomplete beliefs. While society often glorifies saints who renounce their families for the world, Acharya Prashant clarifies that as biological beings, humans are bound by space and time. It is natural and practical to start one's journey of care and responsibility from where they are physically located—with their immediate surroundings and family. He uses the example of Mahatma Gandhi, who prioritized local weavers over foreign ones, to illustrate that while one may love everyone, practical action must begin with those closest to them. However, Acharya Prashant emphasizes that true well-being for one's family cannot be achieved in isolation. He argues that if a person truly wants to protect their child, they must eventually care for the neighborhood, the city, and the world, because everything is interconnected. For instance, one cannot keep a child healthy if the surrounding air is polluted. Therefore, even a 'selfish' desire for the family's welfare, if understood deeply, must evolve into a 'selfless' service to the world. He warns that a love that remains strictly confined to a few specific bodies is shallow and eventually becomes destructive. True love must deepen and expand over time, moving beyond physical identification to become universal. He concludes that while starting with the family is no sin, remaining stuck there for decades without any spiritual growth or expansion of heart is a failure.
