Description

Acharya Prashant explains that for the central and state governments, the EdTech industry, which is mostly entrance exam coaching, is a huge support. It is a support because if this industry does not keep a young person entangled in preparation for exams like the UPSC for ten years, that person will come out on the streets, raise slogans, and demand employment. There are many people who do not call themselves unemployed, nor is their name on the list of the employed. They are neither unemployed nor employed. They are the ones who have been held captive by this industry. This is a big spectacle that is going on. First, a person spends years preparing for IIT, which now starts from the eighth grade, so that's six years. Then, UPSC itself means eight to ten years. Besides these, there are thousands of other entrance exams. This whole thing keeps the country's youth under the illusion that they are doing some meaningful work. In this illusion, a person turns 32 or 34. He spends four years preparing for IIT-JEE, then six, eight, or ten years on UPSC. His life is ruined, his time and self-esteem are lost, he goes into depression, but he cannot even say that something terrible has happened to him because he feels he was preparing all this time. When the government, society, and the entire system are unable to provide employment, this whole EdTech program flourishes. The people who teach in coaching centers become superstars and are seen as heroes. They even start entering politics because of their popularity. This is a tremendous fraud against the youth of India that has been going on since independence. There are fewer than a thousand seats in UPSC, maybe 700-800, and 1 to 1.5 million people are engaged in it at any given time. You have never been in the top 20-30 percent in your academic record, so how will you now get into the top 0.1 percent? Connected to this coaching industry, another industry starts, which is the motivation industry. Often, the person who teaches coaching also becomes a motivator because it is necessary for them. They tell you that your five years have been wasted, but don't run away, keep at it, pay the fees for another three years, and keep preparing. They say, 'You will do it, you will crack it. Go and submit the fees quickly.' Then, those who get selected are given certificates of honor, seated on thrones, and their interviews are published everywhere, making them heroes. This is what's happening. In government departments and on government posts, the salary is much higher than the work you do. One after another, pay commissions have come, and the salary a government employee gets now is something they should not be getting from anywhere. And besides the salary, there are other allowances. If you have a government job, the output-by-input ratio is much higher than in any other job or work. You have to do very little work, and in return, you get a lot of money and facilities. And the entire youth of India is dying for it. They say, 'We will work hard for seven years, and after that, we won't have to do anything for 40 years. So, what's the harm if we get 40 years of rest after 7 years of hard work?' This is what's happening.
