Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the ego is a state of incompleteness that constantly seeks fulfillment through external objects, people, and worldly associations. It is fundamentally lonely and fearful, always clinging to something to escape its own void. The Upanishadic process of 'Neti Neti' (not this, not this) is designed to discourage the ego by exposing the futility and insignificance of its attachments. By honestly questioning whether these associations provide the desired fulfillment, the ego is shown that its expectations will never be met. This process must be repeated every time the ego attempts to find a new anchor, until its enthusiasm for external seeking is completely exhausted and it has no excuses left to run away from itself.
