Description

Acharya Prashant explains that violence and non-violence cannot be understood through a superficial or physical lens. He argues that the mere act of a metal object entering a body, such as an arrow or a surgical scalpel, does not define violence. Instead, violence is rooted in the internal state of the mind and the sense of incompleteness. When an individual acts from a feeling of being incomplete or to fulfill personal desires and ego, those actions are inherently violent, regardless of whether they appear as physical harm or even as an embrace or a kiss. True non-violence arises when one acts from a state of completeness and for the sake of righteousness or 'Dharma'. In the context of the Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna urges Arjun to fight not for personal gain, kingdom, or revenge, but for the preservation of 'Dharma' and the welfare of humanity. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that if Duryodhan had become the ruler, it would have led to the spiritual and moral decay of society, affecting the entire course of human history. Therefore, Shri Krishna's guidance to Arjun to engage in war was an act of supreme compassion and love, as it was devoid of personal selfishness. The speaker concludes that violence is defined by the motive of personal interest, while any action taken for the universal good and from a state of spiritual wholeness is non-violent.
