Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the phrase "I am" represents the only reality, while any predicate or addition to it is unreal. He describes the "dash" or the blank following "I am" as a symbol of human suffering and the eternal loneliness that drives the search for external associations or partners. This state arises because the "I am" forgets its inherent completeness and plays a trick upon itself. Being non-dual and having no other to interact with, it engages in a self-deluding sport, often referred to as divine play, where it intentionally loses sight of its own grandeur and totality. This self-induced state of forgetfulness is compared to being drugged or intoxicated, leading to the hallucination of the world and the universe. Within this fantasy, the "I am" perceives itself as a small, lonely entity searching for fulfillment in an infinitude of objects. However, the speaker notes that the pure "I am" can never be fully unconscious. A core of untouched awareness remains, which can eventually lead to a state of sobriety or liberation. This transition, often triggered by grace or meeting a teacher, dissolves the hallucination of the world and the three states of consciousness, allowing the individual to return to their true, complete nature.
