Acharya Prashant explains that for a person who is anxious and stressed, tension, anxiety, and mental disorders are a constant presence in their life. They only become exposed and manifest on certain occasions. He clarifies that it is not good news that your stress manifests for only two to four hours a day and remains unmanifested the rest of the time. To understand this, consider that if your stress were to persist for 24 hours, you would have become free from it. Your stress persists and is saved precisely because it remains hidden for 18-20 hours. If it were to make its presence felt for 24 hours, you would become free from it because you wouldn't be able to live without being free. We are able to live a wrong life only because the negative consequences of a wrong life are not constantly experienced. If there were a system where those living a wrong life would immediately receive the fruit of their mistake, then mistakes would stop happening. This game of the world, this whole illusory program, runs only because we find pleasure even after making mistakes. This is the nail driven into the heart of the world, around which the world dances. This very thing has messed up the entire equation of the world: that you can do a completely wrong, utterly despicable act and still find pleasure. If it were so that doing a wrong act would immediately bring suffering, who would commit the mistake? And if there were a system where doing the right thing would invariably bring pleasure, then everyone would only do the right thing. Maya stands as time. The deed you have done is certainly shoddy, so its consequence will also be shoddy, but it may take time to experience it. The punishment is decided the moment you do the wrong deed, but it will take time for you to experience that punishment. This time deceives us; we feel that we haven't been punished at all. The punishment will be received, with a time lag. If you are a sensitive person, it will take less time; you will quickly understand that you have been punished. The more thick-skinned you are, the more time it will take for you to experience that punishment. But being thick-skinned is a punishment in itself. So, did the punishment come late or early? There is only one central tension. There is something within you that wants to go towards the Truth, and there is something within you that does not let it go. This is called tension. For tension, the presence of two opposing forces is necessary. Both these forces are present within all of us, which is why we are all embodiments of tension. This tension can be removed in two or three ways. One way, the easy and convenient one, is to let the force that pulls you towards the nearby lie win. The battle between truth and lie was happening; you let the lie win. Now there is no tension. Most people find this method. The second way to reduce tension is hypocrisy. You divide yourself in half. You become half of the truth and half of the lie. The third way to reduce tension, which is the easiest method, but to a corrupt intellect, it seems the most difficult and expensive. 'Become whose you are, brother.' There will be no tension left. The mind became ecstatic, why speak now?
