Description

Acharya Prashant explains that if he is a scared person, whatever is happening will fit into his story. This is why it is very difficult to explain things to an egoistic person. To explain, you will give them facts, but whatever fact you give, they will include it in their story. The stories you have about Shri Ram, if Shri Ram were to appear today, you would not be able to respect him. The stories you have about Buddha, if Buddha were to appear, it would be difficult for you to give him respect. Because the way Buddha actually is will not match your stories. The Buddha of your stories and the real Buddha are not just different, they are opposite. For one to remain as they are, the world must also be as they are. He gives the example of a giraffe: if a giraffe is in a grassland, it will be difficult for it to remain a giraffe. With such a long neck, its mouth is up in the sky while the grass is on the ground. Its neck will ache from its daily meals. So, for a giraffe to be a giraffe, it is necessary that the leaves on the trees are high up. Similarly, for you to remain as you are, the external conditions must be conducive to how you are. This is a physical, gross example to begin understanding. A fish breathes through its gills. If a fish is to remain a fish, it must be in the sea. If the sea changes, the fish will no longer remain a fish. In the entire process of evolution, it is possible that where some species of fish lived, the water slowly started to dry up. If it dries up all at once, all the fish will die. But if the water dries up slowly, over hundreds of years, involving many generations of fish, then the generations of fish would have adapted. They would have changed themselves in such a way that they could breathe even without water. The fish that was, was not just a fish; it was a relationship between the fish and its world. The fish has no existence in itself. To understand the existence of a fish, one must understand the world of the fish. Just as the body does not want to change, there is someone sitting inside who does not want to change at all. The body is forced to change because the external environment changes, and the body has to adapt. But the ego is not forced to change because the ego's world is not a fact, it is a story. The ego itself is a lie, so its world is also a lie, a story. The body's world is factual, but the ego's world is an imagination. The ego lives in stories. That is why people have made Ram a toy. Real religion is for the dissolution of the ego. Real religion exists so that you do not remain as you are. But the religion of the masses is folk religion, and the purpose of folk religion is the exact opposite of real religion.
