Description

Acharya Prashant explains that fear is a necessary mechanism for the survival of the body. It is an inherent part of our evolutionary process and is not inherently wrong. Fear is the feeling that something is in danger, that something will be lost, or that something attainable will not be obtained. This feeling has been crucial for our survival over millions of years. For instance, the energy to run from a wild animal comes from the fear of being finished. This fear is useful for the body, and the body's fear is a natural and correct response to its mortality. The speaker distinguishes between two types of fear: the natural fear of the body and the psychological fear of the mind. The body's fear is like the immune system fighting a virus; it's a protective mechanism. The mind's fear is also justified when it pertains to perishable things. The real problem arises when fear enters consciousness, making life difficult. This happens when we give undue importance to worldly things. Fear does not exist independently; it attaches itself to the things we value. When we allow worldly objects, relationships, success, or fame to occupy our minds, fear inevitably follows because all these things are transient. Nature and everything in it is perishable. Spirituality is the process of cleansing the mind of these attachments. By not giving excessive importance to worldly things, one can be free from the fear associated with them. The speaker uses the analogy of a Trojan Horse: we invite beautiful things into our minds without realizing they carry the 'virus' of fear. The spiritual path is about understanding the transient nature of everything and playing the game of life fearlessly, knowing that nothing can be permanently lost or gained. Spirituality cleanses the mind not to lock it away, but to enable one to live and play freely, unburdened by fear. Truth is what removes all worries, so one should not worry about the Truth itself.
