Description

Acharya Prashant explains that understanding the nature of action, inaction, and forbidden action is complex because the movement of action is profound. He asserts that the fundamental question in life is not "What should I do?" but "Who is the doer?". Most human problems arise from a lack of self-knowledge rather than a lack of right action. When one truly knows the doer—the ego—the question of what to do becomes irrelevant, and action becomes spontaneous and direct from the Soul, known as Sahaj Karma. He emphasizes that most actions are driven by the ego's desires and fears, whereas Sahaj Karma is free from the interference of the ego and does not even require discernment because it originates from pure consciousness. Acharya Prashant further discusses that the only significant question one should ask is "Who are you?". Identifying with accidental traits like name, gender, or nationality is described as following an alien nature, which leads to suffering. True self-religion involves identifying with the Self. He explains that observing one's actions is a practical tool to uncover hidden desires and the state of the ego. He categorizes actions into different levels, noting that even seeking knowledge can become a bond if it strengthens the ego. Selfless action is performed by one who has transcended the three qualities of nature. Finally, he explains that self-knowledge leads to a lack of reactivity; by understanding that internal urges and external situations are merely processes of nature, one achieves liberation from the ego's influence.
