Acharya Prashant explains that the various gods are powers within oneself. For instance, when one prays to Indra for well-being, one is essentially asking oneself to bestow well-being upon oneself, to be good to oneself. While people often want others to be good to them, they rarely want to be good to themselves. The Upanishads fill this gap by reminding one to be responsible and help oneself before seeking help from others. He elaborates that Brihaspati is not a planet or a distant god, but one's own potential for wisdom and learning. When a person is devoted to learning, they are Brihaspati. The teacher exists within, as one cannot be taught without their own consent. This faculty to say "yes" to learning from life, books, or experiences is Brihaspati. Similarly, Tarkshya, also known as Arishtanemi, is the inner power that prevents bad things from happening to you. This refers to preventing inner harm, as no one can harm your inner self or spirit without your consent. The speaker clarifies that the gods are referred to in an internal, subtle sense. While the external self, the body, is subject to external harm from accidents, viruses, or time, the inner self is one's own lord. All gods reside within; they are names given to virtuous qualities. The process of creating a god involves identifying a virtue, such as fearlessness or strength, deeming it worthy of worship, and then giving it a face and a name. This is a poetic and artistic process, which is why the ancient sages are also called poets (kavis). This internal understanding contrasts with superstitious beliefs, such as the idea that a planet like Shani is displeased and causing misfortune, which the speaker calls a fraud. The true meaning is that all gods are within, and praying to them is a way to awaken these inner potentials. The speaker also touches upon the concepts of 'dam' (control) and 'sham' (pacification), explaining that 'sham' is about dousing the inner fire of tendencies like lust, anger, and jealousy. He states that if one has put out the inner fire, they are immortal, irrespective of what happens to the body, because most people are already internally destroyed by this inner fire.
