Acharya Prashant addresses the question of whether patriarchy affects men. He defines patriarchy not as a social system but as a state of mind, which is the belief that one's job in life is determined by one's gender. This mindset, he explains, is a great bondage and is oppressive for both men and women. Men are told that their purpose, station, and activities are determined by their gender, and women are told much the same thing. Therefore, the issue is not a conflict of men versus women, but rather a battle of wisdom versus ignorance. The speaker identifies ignorance as the common enemy of both men and women. It is because of ignorance that men continue to be men and women continue to be women in their conditioned roles. He explains that as human beings, our true nature is pure consciousness. The problem arises when we make the body the center of our existence and identify ourselves as a man or a woman. This body-centric existence is akin to living in a jungle, where each species behaves according to its genetic conditioning. Human beings are unique in their potential to go beyond this genetic configuration. True feminism, according to the speaker, is not about letting a woman do whatever she wants, as that is still operating from desire, which is a product of conditioning. The goal is not equality with men, who are themselves in bondage to their biological roles, but liberation for all. Liberation means exceeding the identities of both manhood and womanhood. A man, as long as he identifies as a man, can only be a predator towards a woman. To truly help, one must first become a human being, transcending gender identity and caring for all of existence. One cannot be truly joyful while others, especially loved ones, are in misery.
