A questioner, a 50-year-old father, expresses his fear and concern about his 22-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son. Although they are decent in their studies, he sees something very wrong in their words, behavior, and attitude towards life, but he cannot pinpoint what it is. He gives examples: his daughter, from a vegetarian family, secretly had a party with meat and drinks. His son wants to go to Australia for an ordinary course costing 50 lakhs, which the father can afford, but he doubts if his children will be able to achieve anything given their state. Acharya Prashant responds that this is not just about the questioner's children but about an entire generation. He explains that a person becomes better and improves only when they realize their shortcomings, which happens when they experience pain, trouble, failure, and disappointment. The current generation, born in this century, has not been taught to value knowledge and hard work. They don't feel bad about getting low marks or failing. An environment has been created where knowledge and true achievement have very little value. The speaker elaborates that the value of hard work and knowledge has diminished. Instead, the value of money, style, and "swag" has increased. The biggest fool in school can be the hero if he wears expensive shoes and a watch. The respect that was once earned through hard work and knowledge is now bought with money or gained through superficial things. He contrasts a debater, who needs language, intelligence, and knowledge, with a "roaster," who just needs to be abusive and is now more popular. The value of qualities has become less than the value of appearance. People are not ashamed of being incapable; they are happy as long as they are having fun. Acharya Prashant states that the ideal of this generation has become "having fun," which makes a person hollow from the inside. This is the reason for the behavior of the questioner's children. The material world has advanced so forcefully that it has mesmerized people, making them forget higher values. When spirituality disappears from life, all higher values also disappear. The solution is to provide the right company and introduce them to high art, literature, and elevated people. Until they are introduced to higher things, they will continue to wallow in lower places, and you won't be able to stop them.
