Description

Acharya Prashant explains that while the ultimate truth or destination is one, the paths to reach it must necessarily differ based on an individual's starting point. He uses the analogy of people positioned at different locations around a mountain peak; since they start from different places, their routes to the top will vary. He notes that prophets and sages like Prophet Muhammad, Ashtavakra, Jesus, and Shri Krishna spoke to different audiences in different contexts, requiring them to provide specific guidance tailored to those individuals. Religion, therefore, is the path that leads one toward the truth, and it must be highly personal and adaptable because while the truth is unchanging, the human condition is constantly shifting. Conflict between religions arises when followers focus on the specific characteristics of the path—such as sand, water, or trees—rather than the destination itself. When religion becomes organized and institutionalized, people begin to fight over these external differences, forgetting the light at the peak. Regarding the Sikh tradition of keeping hair, Acharya Prashant clarifies that this is a natural state of being at ease with one's body. He points out that ancient sages and even depictions of Lord Shiva show them with natural hair and beards, suggesting that once a person becomes comfortable with their natural self, they lose interest in manipulating their physical appearance. He concludes that only a restless, middle-class mind feels the need to constantly alter the body's natural state, whereas a sage remains in harmony with nature.
