Description

Acharya Prashant explains that ethics and morality exist to distinguish right from wrong for those who lack their own inner vision. While external standards are practically useful for people who do not know how to live or decide for themselves, relying on them is inwardly wasteful because every individual has the potential to decide purely by themselves. He argues that true help should enable a person to proceed without further assistance, whereas following prevalent ethics often perpetuates a compulsive need for external guidance. He suggests that one should instead ask, "Who am I?" and "What am I here for?" defining anything that brings one closer to the purpose of existence as good or auspicious. This approach is described as higher, inner, or deeper ethics, which requires self-knowledge to function. Without this inner guiding light, people merely follow the law of inertia and require external codes to survive. Acharya Prashant clarifies that while social laws and legal provisions must be honored as a responsible citizen, one should not rely on societal norms for the most meaningful and intimate decisions in life. In such personal matters, he advises a clear line of discretion where one refuses to listen to external authorities, focusing instead on the inner nature of the matter.
