Description

Acharya Prashant explains that Hinduism is a Vedic religion rooted in the philosophy of Vedanta, which comprises the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Brahma Sutras. He points out a significant issue where many followers remain ignorant of these central scriptures and instead follow miscellaneous storybooks that are not truly scriptural. He emphasizes that any text violating the Vedas or Shruti must be dismissed, as authentic religious proof requires alignment with Vedic philosophy. While the Upanishads actively dismiss the caste system, it persists because people follow certain Smritis and Puranas that support it. He argues that religion should not be a supermarket where one picks and chooses based on personal conditioning, but a focused pursuit of the one truth. The speaker highlights the tragedy that Hinduism, despite being the source of oneness, has lost that unity. He notes that throughout history, reformers like Mahatma Buddha, Lord Mahavir, and various saints—many from lower castes—tried to purge the religion of such nonsense. He identifies the root cause of social evils like caste-based discrimination as a lack of real education that awakens light within an individual. Without addressing this root cause through deep reform and a clear definition of central scriptures, tragic incidents resulting from discrimination will continue. He concludes that while forms of caste exist globally, its most obnoxious form in Hinduism can only be corrected by identifying and adhering to its true scriptural foundations.
