Acharya Prashant explains that when the light of understanding awakens, darkness disappears. In this state, there is no day or night, no truth or untruth, no cold or heat, and no happiness or sorrow. This means that the world and the ego that seeks refuge in all kinds of dualities cease to exist. The ego is always seeking shelter in opposites. For instance, on a cold night, it longs for the day and the sun's warmth. On a hot day, it finds the day troublesome and wishes for the night to sleep. Wherever it is, it always looks for hope in the opposite and wants to escape to it. However, for one who has understood the matter and seen the truth, there is no interest in going to any opposite. It is not that night and day cease to happen, or that cold and heat stop occurring. These things continue to happen, but the hope associated with them does not. We are not talking about things themselves, but about the meanings we attach to them. In reality, you do not see a pillar; you see the meaning you have associated with the pillar. You see your own definition of the pillar. Once you are free from the ego, the selfish interests that made you see the pillar also disappear. Since the pillar was nothing but the meanings you attached to it, when all the meanings are gone, the pillar is also gone. This is a fundamental principle of Vedanta: objects do not exist in themselves. Everything is entirely subjective. The object is a reflection, an echo of the subject. There is absolute subjectivity; only you exist. What you think is different from you is your shadow, so that too is you. Similarly, day and night are not external events; they are defined by the self-interest you have in them. When you have no special self-interest left in day or night, they cease to matter. In this sense, it is said that only the auspicious Shiva remains, which means only the ultimate purpose (Paramarth) remains. Self-interest (Svarth) means fulfilling a small desire. Paramarth means fulfilling the fundamental desire for liberation (Mukti). The one who seeks to fulfill this ultimate desire is a person of ultimate purpose (Paramarthi). For the liberated person, the world ceases to exist because they no longer have any self-interest in it. In this sense, the world has disappeared for them. The liberated person becomes immortal because they no longer need a future to fulfill desires. Time stops for them. The spiritual person is the most ambitious because they seek the ultimate, not petty things. The purpose of life is to keep shedding all the layers and peels, so that only that remains which is yours but not like you. All the false coverings must be removed, and then what remains inside is you.
