Description

Acharya Prashant explains that stress and anxiety arise from a fundamental internal conflict: one part of the human being is drawn toward the truth, while another part pulls toward falsehood. This duality creates a state of tension, much like a heart being torn in two directions. He observes that people continue to live wrongly because the negative consequences of their actions are often delayed by time, which he identifies as a deceptive aspect of Maya. If the punishment for a wrong action were instantaneous, people would stop committing errors. However, because one can experience temporary pleasure from a base act or pain from a righteous one, the mind becomes confused about the true nature of cause and effect. To resolve this tension, Acharya Prashant outlines three common methods. The first is to completely surrender to falsehood. By eliminating the pursuit of truth entirely, the internal conflict vanishes, allowing a person to live a shallow, sensory-driven life without apparent stress. The second method is hypocrisy, where a person divides their life into compartments—performing religious rituals or meditation while simultaneously engaging in corrupt or unethical activities. This allows them to maintain a respectable self-image while continuing their misdeeds. The third and most natural way is to fully commit to the truth. While the intellect may perceive this as difficult or costly, it is the only authentic way to achieve a state of peace where no tension remains.
