Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the human fascination with the 'new,' particularly in the context of New Year celebrations. He explains that whether one celebrates the Gregorian New Year or advocates for an Indian one, the underlying desire for something new is common to all. This desire stems from a deep dissatisfaction with the old, which is our current state of being. He states that we are all old people, trapped in a cycle, and in bondage. We are born into nature (Prakriti) for the purpose of getting free from it. The speaker describes the human condition as being trapped in the bondage of nature (Prakriti) and largely unconscious of this state. We are like an unconscious person in chains who writhes in pain but doesn't know the way out. This restlessness manifests as a constant search for novelty in external things like parties, new clothes, or even changing calendars. We are stuck in a cycle, and this is the oldness we want to escape. However, we don't know how to break free from the bondage of the old, so we keep doing absurd things to move from the old to the new. Acharya Prashant clarifies that true newness is liberation (Mukti) from nature. This cannot be achieved by the mere passage of time or changing dates. The path to this newness is through love, which paradoxically requires both sensitivity and ruthlessness. It demands courage, sacrifice, and a heart full of love. He explains that the path to the absolute highest is through choosing the relatively highest in every aspect of life. Just as Shri Krishna identifies himself with the highest within the manifest world, like the Himalayas among mountains or Shri Ram among warriors, we must choose the best among our available options. This is the practical way to move towards liberation. He uses an analogy of a child offering all their savings for an expensive item. The shopkeeper, seeing the child's total dedication, gives the item. Similarly, if we do our absolute best with our limited capacity, the ultimate (the absolutely best) happens on its own, through grace. The key is to make the highest possible choice in every moment. The speaker emphasizes that we are not entirely helpless; we have the power of choice (Sankalp Shakti). By consistently choosing the highest available option, we express our love for the ultimate, and grace descends.
