Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the question of sexual identity by stating that the bigger issue is not the specific form of sexuality, but rather the problem of animalistic sexuality itself. He contrasts humanity's advanced achievements, such as exploring the universe, with our primitive obsession with chasing after bodies, a behavior he likens to that of animals, sometimes with even less moderation. Whether a man runs after a woman or another man, the fundamental issue is that he is still running after a body. The speaker questions whether the body is a human's primary identity. He explains that for animals, the body is the primary identity, but for humans, the true identity lies in consciousness, thought, and discretion. A person is considered truly alive not merely due to physical functions but because of an active consciousness; a person is declared brain-dead when the mind ceases to function, even if the body is kept alive. Therefore, our primary identity is consciousness, not the body. When one is conscious, the body becomes a servant to that consciousness, which is its proper role. If bodily tendencies are allowed to rule with little consciousness, one's life is spoiled. Acharya Prashant dismisses the distinction between heterosexual and homosexual relationships as trivia if the partner is undeserving. In either case, one subjects oneself to adverse company that corrupts the mind. The real issue being masked by the debate over sexual preference is the problem of bodily enslavement itself. This deep-seated body-identification is the root of many of humanity's problems, including destructive consumerism, as it is the body that consumes, not consciousness. The solution proposed is to elevate one's thought and consciousness. An aware mind will inherently know how to make the right decisions in all domains of life, including the sexual one, without needing external rules or policies. As an adult, it is one's sovereign right to decide on these matters, but that right must be exercised by a very aware mind. Without proper thought and discretion, any decision one makes will be flawed.
