Description

In response to a question about the movie 'PK' and its portrayal of Hinduism, Acharya Prashant begins by stating that the filmmakers showed what they wanted to, and only God knows their true intentions. He then shifts the focus to the questioner, asking, "What have you shown? Whatever they had to do, they did. What have you done?" He addresses the concern that the movie showed a distorted and disrespectful form of Hinduism by posing counter-questions: "How many people have you taught the Upanishads? How many people have you taught the Gita? How many people have you explained the true meaning of 'Shivatva' (the essence of Shiva)?" He asserts that anyone who understands the true meaning of these concepts will not be affected by any film. Acharya Prashant further questions who is causing the real harm to religion: those who mock it, or those who call themselves religious but have no connection to the scriptures. He argues that one cannot stop others from speaking against religion, as they will always find a way. The real issue, he explains, is the lack of knowledge within the community itself. He asks if the general public even knows the true meaning of religion, because if they did, their sentiments could not be hurt. He recounts a similar situation regarding a conference on "Dismantling Global Hindutva," where he asked the complainants who had stopped them from organizing their own conference to explain the real Sanatana Dharma to the world. He challenges the notion of there being over a billion Hindus, asking to be shown just two hundred thousand true Hindus. He states that people are Hindus by name only, and being born into a Hindu family does not make one a Hindu, as it is not a matter of genetics. Religion, he emphasizes, is centered on its scriptures, and without a connection to them, one cannot claim to be a Hindu. He observes that people's Hindu identity often emerges only as a reaction to anti-Hindu sentiments or the bigotry of other religions. This reactive religiosity, he says, is not true religion. Acharya Prashant concludes that the real threat to religion comes from within, not from outsiders. He points out the general public's lack of interest in their own scriptures, preferring entertainment instead. He mentions that even when his foundation spends a lot of money to make videos on the Upanishads available for free, people are not interested. He states that today, there is a profound need to spread the true message of religion, as the solution to the world's problems lies not in technology but in spirituality, which is pure religion.
