Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the breaking of trust or the expectations of others should not be the primary concern when evaluating one's actions. Instead, the true measure of any action is the inner peace it brings and the level of consciousness from which it originates. He emphasizes that if an action arises from understanding and wisdom, it is correct even if it disappoints others. Conversely, if an action stems from unconsciousness or ignorance, it is harmful regardless of whether it fulfills social expectations. He advises individuals to look within and identify the source of their actions—whether they are acting from a divine, human, animalistic, or demonic state. He notes that people often expect others to act from lower states, so fulfilling expectations is not a valid moral compass. He further discusses the concept of 'Hukam' (divine command) from the Guru Granth Sahib, explaining that the ultimate command is to use one's power of discernment to distinguish between truth and illusion (Maya). One must stop following the dictates of Maya and instead act from a center of truth. Acharya Prashant also addresses the practical aspect of maintaining spiritual practice after a retreat, suggesting that the physical presence of a teacher is not necessary because the true Guru is always present. He warns that the forces of illusion are always waiting to pull one back into old patterns. Finally, he critiques the common notion that 'right' is whatever does not harm others, pointing out that without true wisdom, one cannot know what is actually beneficial or harmful for another person. He illustrates this with a story of a monkey who, in an attempt to protect a king from a mosquito, ended up harming the king due to a lack of understanding.
