Description

Acharya Prashant explains that Brahman has no definition because it represents everything outside of one's personal circle of existence. He advises against showing interest in Brahman itself, as the mind cannot conceive or see it; instead, one should focus on developing a lack of interest in the self. The primary purpose of discussing Brahman is not to understand a metaphysical concept but to eliminate suffering. All spiritual inquiries should begin with an investigation into the nature of pain and restlessness. He emphasizes that names and labels are often jokes that point to their own falsity, and one should learn to laugh at the labels of 'pleasure' and 'pain' rather than being identified by them. Regarding body identification, Acharya Prashant asserts that perceiving oneself as a body is a choice and an experience rather than an absolute truth. He explains that Vedanta places the responsibility on the individual, suggesting that one remains identified with the body because of a personal preference or 'royal' choice. He advises that anything reinforcing this body-consciousness should be considered bad company. The path to freedom lies in making conscious choices in the present moment to avoid situations or influences that reduce one's existence to mere physical form, thereby gradually withdrawing consent from the ego and body-identity.
