Acharya Prashant explains that having to exist is not a compulsion but a moment-to-moment choice. He states that by the very act of asking the question, "Why do I have to exist?", one has already chosen to exist. This is because the question itself demonstrates that there is someone asking it. Being is not an objective event but a subjective, moment-to-moment choice. There is no force compelling one to identify as a living being, a man, or of a certain age or religion. The moment one stops considering oneself as anything, one ceases to exist in that form. We have to exist because we choose to. This choice is a form of belief, which is scripturally termed 'Tadatmya' or identification. It is when you say, "That is me," forming an intimacy with something and giving it the name of your soul. One's annihilation or erasure is possible at any moment by dropping this identification, but instead, we work very hard to preserve our identity. Questions about why some are born human, some animal, some rich, or some poor are based on a false premise. Everyone is born the same. The perceived differences are based on our own value judgments and comparisons. For instance, we pity someone with one hand because most people have two, but we don't pity ourselves for not having four. These distinctions are a game, and there is no spiritual mystery hidden in them. Acharya Prashant clarifies that spirituality is not about finding mystical reasons for worldly differences, such as why a cat is a cat or why someone is born rich. Such questions are merely cheap entertainment. The only true spiritual question is about the inner self: "This inner restlessness, this ego that is restless, what does it want and how can it find peace?" Spirituality does not answer most questions; it dismisses them as irrelevant. The spiritual person's perspective on most worldly issues is that they are not worth thinking about. The real problem is being entangled in issues that have no real standing.
