Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the question of why divine incarnations fought against specific individuals like Ravana or Kansa, and not the common people, even though illusion (Maya) is present in everyone. He explains that while illusion is universal, its tendency differs among people. For the vast majority, around 98% of the population, their illusion is not a deep-seated belief in falsehood but rather a tendency to follow the crowd. They are not committed to either truth or falsehood but are swayed by numerical strength, power, and brute force. Their inner delusion is to simply go where the flow takes them. He categorizes society into three groups. Besides the 98% who follow the crowd, there is 1% of people who strive to lead others towards truth. Then there is another 1% who are the 'nodes of evil'—the centers and hubs from which dark forces receive nourishment and propagate. The spiritual battle is waged against this specific 1%, the source of corruption, not the masses who are merely followers. He cites the Bhagavad Gita, where Shri Krishna tells Arjun that the conduct of eminent people sets the standard for the rest of society. If a leader like Arjun shies away from his duty, it will lead to his own infamy and the spread of unrighteousness (adharma), as most people lack their own inner light and simply follow the dazzling display of power. Acharya Prashant uses the analogy of a cancerous tumor. While the entire body might be responsible for the conditions that allow a tumor to grow, the treatment involves surgically removing the tumor itself, the 'node of evil,' not the entire body. If this node is not removed, the disease will metastasize and take over the whole system. Similarly, if the evil elements in society are not dealt with, they will corrupt the entire social fabric. One Duryodhana or one Ravana, if left unchecked, will give birth to a hundred more. Therefore, it is crucial to identify and fight these sources of evil. This battle is as necessary today as it was in past eras. He concludes that the fight is not against the 99% but against the 1% who are the 'nodes of evil.' The remaining 98% are like dry leaves that blow with the wind. When righteous forces (Dharma) are victorious, their interest lies in educating the masses and making them capable of standing with a straight spine, so they no longer just follow the crowd. This process of awakening consciousness in people is the essence of spirituality.
