Description

Acharya Prashant states that the entire suffering of mankind is because we take things very seriously, especially things that are not meant to be taken seriously. He asserts that if you become serious about something, you will suffer. When asked about the role of discrimination (Vivek), he explains that Vivek is the ability to see what is eternal (Nitya) versus what is non-eternal (Anitya), and what is trivial versus what is not. The application of Vivek, he says, will only reveal that everything is non-eternal. He connects this understanding to the teachings of the Buddha, who called this concept 'Anatta' (no-self) and 'Anicca' (impermanence). Acharya Prashant emphasizes that everything is 'Anicca,' meaning everything is non-eternal and therefore trivial. Given this, he suggests that one should not be serious but instead enjoy life, have a blast, and relax. He encourages a playful attitude towards life, as everything is ultimately trivial. Acharya Prashant directly links an individual's suffering to the things they are serious about. He prompts the listener to identify what they hold as important, as that is the very source of their suffering. He explains that whatever you give great importance to will bring you suffering. In contrast, the liberated person finds nothing important. He concludes by saying that whatever holds the mind at any given moment is the mind itself, and the key to breaking the code of suffering is to see what you are being serious about.
