Acharya Prashant explains that religion is often misunderstood as a code of conduct, loyalty to a specific book, or a set of pilgrimage centers. He argues that such systems are merely externally implanted beliefs and conditioned behaviors that lack deep roots in the mind. Because these belief systems are superficial, people can and do change them frequently. However, he clarifies that what people are actually changing are sects or cults, not true religion. True religion, or Dharma, is singular and universal; it is the awakening of consciousness and understanding that brings an individual closer to their center. It is nameless and formless, much like the light emanating from different candles. While the candles may have different shapes and names, the light they produce is identical and indivisible.
