Description

In response to a question about bringing the love and surrender of saints like Kabir Saheb into one's life, Acharya Prashant advises the questioner to continue reading what he finds beautiful until it also starts to seem challenging and terrifying. He explains that if a spiritual matter only attracts you, it means you have not understood it completely. Truth is not just beautiful; it is also associated with the quality of Shiva (Shivatva), because Truth is cataclysmic and destructive. Destruction is inherent in Truth. You will know you have truly understood Kabir Saheb only when his words seem both the most beautiful and the most terrifying. At times, you will feel like running far away from his words, seeing them as the greatest danger, but when you try to run, you will realize the option to escape is long gone. Only then will you know that you have begun to understand him. Attraction is a very superficial matter; you must delve deeper into the words. The process has started for you because the attraction to Kabir Saheb has pulled you closer, which is his way. If the words were not attractive, you would not go towards them. As you listen more carefully, you will realize the matter is much more profound. You mention love and surrender, but if you read what Sant Kabir says about love, there is blood flowing everywhere. We think love means showers, happiness, colors, and sweetness. But Kabir says, 'This is the house of love, not your aunt's house; cut off your head, place it on the ground, then you may enter the house.' This is what love means. Surrender means the surrender of the head; nothing less will do. The saints' words contain poetry and are sweet, which is why people are drawn to them. Your test will be when the saints' words start to open up to you, and you still love them. It often happens that until people understand the saints' words, they find them very dear, but as soon as they understand, they run away. They are lovely only as long as we don't understand what they are saying. But when you understand the full meaning, your mind is blown, because they are talking about giving up your life and being ruined. My prayer is that even after understanding, you find Kabir Saheb as lovely as you do today.
