Description

Acharya Prashant explains that there is no relationship between the Upanishads or the Gita and culture, tradition, or local values. He asserts that a man of wisdom has very little regard for these things because Shri Krishna teaches to value only the absolute truth. According to the Gita, one must leave all other responsibilities, thoughts, and cultural conditionings behind and come only to the truth. He emphasizes that anything in this world should only be valued in proportion to its capacity to lead one toward the truth. Acharya Prashant points out that great social reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Vivekananda, and Dr. Ambedkar were committed to the truth rather than tradition. He concludes that while changes in language or clothing when moving abroad are matters of common sense, a cause for concern only arises if one's commitment to the truth and wisdom literature like the Gita begins to waver.
