Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the human body is essentially a single, large sensory organ designed to experience the world. The very existence of the body grants a sense of reality to the world because experiences like heat, cold, hunger, and thirst require an external environment. He clarifies that pure consciousness does not mean a mind devoid of content, but rather a state where one is not obsessively identified with or disturbed by the contents of the mind. The body is a system constantly yearning for experience, and without it, a person often feels as though they have ceased to exist. The spiritual challenge is to maintain a healthy relationship with these experiences without becoming fearful or losing one's sense of self. He further discusses the relationship between the Soul and the world. He posits that while the Soul is essential and eternally present, the world is essentially hollow and transient. Both these facts are absolute truths: the Soul is true because it exists, and the world is true in its non-existence or transience. He suggests that the world is an expression of the Soul, manifesting the truth through its fleeting nature. Suffering arises when we mistakenly attribute the permanence of the immortal Soul to the mortal and decaying objects of the world. Acharya Prashant advises giving the world the same respect one gives to a flower that blooms for only two days—appreciating its beauty while remaining fully aware of its inevitable end.
