Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the human condition is defined by the presence of 'Dharma', which distinguishes humans from animals. He describes the 'I' or ego as a false entity that exists in a symbiotic relationship with the world, both being two sides of the same coin. While the ultimate truth is the Soul or Atman, the ego carries various notions and desires. Dharma is defined as the final notion—the singular pursuit of liberation—which eventually leads to the dissolution of all other notions and the ego itself. Once liberation is achieved, even the concept of Dharma becomes unnecessary, as the liberated person transcends all duties and dualities like merit and sin. Regarding the 'treatment' of the ego, Acharya Prashant asserts that diagnosis is the cure. By observing the ego's movements, thoughts, and fears, one realizes its illusory nature. He clarifies that the mind is like a neighborhood surrounding the ego; as the ego changes its identifications, the mind's content changes accordingly. To move from identifying with the body to realizing pure consciousness, one needs curiosity, courage, and the honesty to acknowledge inner suffering. He emphasizes that sensitivity toward one's own pain and emptiness is the primary tool for liberation, as it drives the search for a cure. Guilt or regret is only useful if it immediately redirects a person toward the right path rather than becoming another excuse for stagnation.
