Description

Acharya Prashant explains that people often define religion based on their personal interests and ego, using it to justify their actions. He clarifies that true religion is not about worshipping a deity or following rituals, but about having the courage to step outside one's personality and ego. He asserts that the primary 'religion' most people follow is the protection of their own lies and falsehoods. He emphasizes that as long as one says "my religion" or "my scripture," they are merely feeding their ego rather than practicing true spirituality. True religion, according to him, begins when the individual self disappears. Addressing the concept of moral standards and commitments, Acharya Prashant critiques the popular notion of "giving one's life for a promise." He argues that spirituality is about being devoted to the Truth, not to one's own words or egoistic commitments. He points out that a promise made in ignorance or intoxication has no value. He advises seeking religion in the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the teachings of sages like Ashtavakra and Dattatreya, rather than in popular folk tales or mythological stories, which he considers to be mere stories rather than the core of religion. Finally, he discusses the balance between the spiritual and material worlds. He explains that while the inner self should remain free of calculations and surrender to the Truth, the external world requires intellect, planning, and precise calculation. He suggests that one must use their head in the world to function effectively, while keeping it bowed in the spiritual dimension. Understanding how the world and the mind function is a prerequisite to understanding the Truth, as one cannot grasp the absolute without first understanding the manifest world.
