Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the love sung of by saints like Kabir Saheb is fundamentally different from social or biological love. Social love is often a marketable transaction or a chemical reaction within the brain, similar to the satisfaction derived from money or reputation. This type of love is rooted in the ego and the physical body. In contrast, transcendental love cannot be easily identified or named; it is a profound longing that often manifests as melancholy or a sense of being overwhelmed by the divine. He warns that if one recognizes this real love too early, the ego might attempt to block it, so it often remains unnamed for a long time. He critiques modern concepts like self-love and self-acceptance, labeling them as poisonous and anti-spiritual. These slogans, such as "be yourself" or "listen to your heart," are seen as attempts by the ego to declare itself the sole authority and avoid the truth. True spirituality is neither about passively accepting one's current state nor about actively trying to change into something else based on personal desire. Instead, it involves leaving matters to something beyond the ego. The spiritual path is tricky because it suggests that whatever the ego chooses will inherently be wrong because the ego is the one choosing it. Finally, Acharya Prashant distinguishes between deep worldly desire and spiritual longing. While both involve a fervent energy for change, worldly desire seeks to add something to the self, such as success or a partner. Spiritual longing, however, is a desire so vast that the individual is prepared to let go of everything, including their own identity. In worldly love, one tries to bring the beloved into their own small world; in divine love, the lover leaves their own house to dissolve into the house of God. The ultimate difference lies in whether one is seeking to boost the ego or fade away into the truth.
