Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the misconception that ancient spiritual philosophies and traditions are to blame for modern misunderstandings. He explains that philosophy is not the truth itself but a method to eradicate falseness in the mind. It relies on the seeker being a lover of truth and possessing the drive for liberation. When individuals lack this drive, they fail to understand the philosophy or deliberately misinterpret it to suit their own inner falseness. Therefore, the failure lies with the interpreter, not the philosophy. Regarding traditions, Acharya Prashant notes that they were created by wise individuals to present subtle truths in a more digestible, tangible manner for the masses. He argues that it is unjust to blame past generations for our current lack of understanding, as no one is prohibited from exercising their intellect to uncover the symbolic meaning behind traditions. He emphasizes that if a tradition or knowledge from the past feels outdated, it is the responsibility of the current generation to repair, improve, or even replace it with something better suited for modern times. He stresses the importance of individual responsibility and gratitude. Sages and ancestors provided their knowledge as a selfless gift, and it is up to the living to utilize that 'ammunition' effectively. Rather than complaining about the 'crumbling mansion' inherited from the past, one should either renovate it or build something new. He highlights that in the Sanatana tradition, there is no restriction against creating new scriptures or knowledge. Ultimately, while most of what is inherited is subject to time and will become redundant, the core essence remains timeless, and it is our duty to act responsibly in our own lives.
