Description

Acharya Prashant responds to a question about moving from one teacher to another, such as Osho, Jiddu Krishnamurti, and himself. He explains that just as songs play in the mind, these individuals also occupy the mind. He advises that there is nothing special about these people; one should instead look at what the mind wants to attain through them. Whatever the mind seeks is simple and natural and does not require any special medium. If one does not reach it directly, the mind will keep searching for a medium. He warns that if a medium persists over time, it becomes an obstacle rather than a means. He uses the analogy of a car: you sit in a car to reach a destination, not to remain seated in it. If you stay in the car, it becomes a hindrance. Similarly, the mind seeks a medium to find peace. Peace is easy, but the medium is difficult. One should try to attain peace without a medium as much as possible. A medium should be adopted only when one feels completely stuck, and with the intention of letting it go, not getting attached to it. Teachers like Osho and Krishnamurti are pointers, indicating that something is easily available—our true nature. This is not a mysterious or distant thing; making it so renders it unavailable. It is as simple as wanting rest after a tiring journey. This desire for rest is our nature. All saints and wise men have pointed towards this simple state. In response to a follow-up question, he states that pushes are constantly being given by existence itself. The suffering in life is a form of these pushes. Existence wants you to improve. The only thing in the way is one's own stubbornness and rigidity. By being more fluid and soft, the work will be done.
