Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the concept of the individual is largely a myth because human beings are primarily products of biological and social conditioning. This conditioning creates an inner state of malcontentment and strife because our fundamental nature is freedom, yet our reality is one of being conditioned. He argues that since we are products of our environment, public policy is of utmost importance in shaping human consciousness. If society is to be liberated from superstition and falseness, the influences acting upon people must be carefully managed through education and cultural leadership. He emphasizes that India’s status as a spiritual capital is not genetic but a result of a culture and environment that historically encouraged inwardness. Acharya Prashant highlights the need for an education system that encourages students to look within and understand the origins of their thoughts and identities, which he describes as a universal and secular psychological process. He warns that current public policies often prioritize marketable skills and consumption over self-awareness, leading to a society that is increasingly insensitive and cruel. He points out that even taxation and economic policies, such as those promoting animal consumption or pleasure-based tourism, impact the collective spiritual state. Without a shift in policy to foster inwardness, the natural urge for awakening remains rare, occurring in only one in a million individuals. Addressing the challenge of leadership in a democracy, Acharya Prashant notes that leaders often pander to the ignorance and insecurities of the electorate rather than enlightening them. He suggests that change will likely come through two paths: the efforts of extraordinary individuals who act as role models, and the inevitable mass suffering caused by misguided global conditions. He concludes that if humanity does not choose to awaken through right policy and individual enterprise, the deteriorating environment and the laws of nature will force a change, or the species may simply face extinction as a consequence of its own lack of self-awareness.
